This did start out as a serious cat portrait commission for my friend but I just couldn’t get a facial likeness. I thought the body of the cat was a pretty good painting but no matter what I did to his face, it just wasn’t looking like my friend’s cat!
So in order to save my very short-lived career as a pet portrait painter and to keep the parts of the painting that I liked, I had to get creative.
And voila! Smiley Cat! 🙂 I haven’t had any pet portrait commissions since, so maybe pet lovers want their paintings to look like their pets? hehe
