Ballpoint Pen Drawing 5: Kitchen Knife

October 15, 2019 by Dion Leave a Comment

I noticed I haven’t been posting a drawing to my website everyday but I have been drawing one each day. Also I have mostly been posting one each day on my Instagram so remember to follow me Here if you have an account.

Today I’m mixing two of my interests: Art and cooking. So I have a kitchen knife, a wooden spoon and a jar of oregano or kekik as it is called here in Turkey.

I made labels for all of my herb and spice jars when I first arrived so that I could learn what they were called here. So each label has the English and Turkish word on the jar. They actually took me hours to make as I started the text/font in a particular way and then I had to keep going with it for each jar. I’m happy with how they turned out though AND I learned how to say all of the herbs and spices that I most commonly use in the kitchen.

As a drawing it’s relatively uninspiring but as an exercise it is a success as I have completed a drawing for the day! The goal has never been to create great drawings with this 30 Pen drawings in 30 days exercise, it has been to look and reconnect with where painting comes from, which is drawing.

I like the small rustic wooden table that the objects are sitting on though. It’s the table that I have been taking pictures of the sketchbook on each day during this exercise. It belongs to my friend and is as rustic as it is because her dog chewed on it. If you look closely at the photograph you’ll see bite marks all over it, so I can only assume that it must taste good.

If this wasn’t an exercise or series that requires 30 consecutive days/drawings to be successful then this picture might have landed in the bin. But here it is, being shared online by me 😉

See my previous ballpoint pen drawings Here. Also please subscribe to my Youtube channel where I have posted a few painting demonstrations. Thank you for being here.
