Day two of the 30 drawings in 30 days exercise that I have set myself. In keeping with the aim of drawing my surroundings I have decided to draw the things that I carry with me everyday whenever I leave the house. My sunglasses, my wallet and my mobile phone.
Also, in regards to Inktober, I was saying yesterday that I learned of it on social media after I started this ballpoint pen drawing challenge. Well a reader has let me know that they do have themes or challenges for each day. So it could be a word like “build” and then you interpret it how you wish.
I’m not going to follow the Inktober suggestions but I’ll keep using the hashtags on social media. People are using #inktober and #inktober2019 hashtags on whatever social media platforms they use. I’ve posted some on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook so far. Follow me on them and I’ll probably follow you back if your account is art related in some way.
Ink Drawing 2 – Day 2 of 30

Everyday carry today 🙂… is a ballpoint pen ink drawing of the things that I carry whenever I leave the house.
I have a pair of scratched Ray Ban sunglasses that would be replaced in an instant if I had the spare cash to spend on such a luxury item. I don’t like cheap and nasty sunglasses and I don’t change my brand or style much. Actually I’ve really only ever owned two pairs of sunglasses for the past 20 years. I used to buy a particular pair of Diesel sunglasses which have since become impossible to buy anymore, and now this particular model of Ray Ban sunglasses. So if history is any indication then I’ll be buying these Ray Bans for another 10 years!
The wallet was about $50 and is starting to show its age too. It’s another luxury item though and I won’t be replacing it anytime soon. Being in another country makes you think about how you spend your money if you don’t have bags filled with cash.
And the last item is an ancient Apple iPhone 4S. My Samsung Note mobile phone that I brought with me to Turkey from Australia was cut off after a few months in Istanbul. I’m told it’s to stop people buying phones from other countries and bringing them into Turkey. The prices and taxes of mobile phones are high here so people obviously start looking for alternatives.
So, I have a borrowed an iPhone 4S that wasn’t being used. I can’t update it and I can’t use a lot of applications as they don’t support the old operating system that I’m using on this phone! But I can make phone calls, send messages, and use Whatsapp, so I guess I’m happy with it, kind of. Actually I wish I could just buy a new mobile phone but again, I need to watch my spending while I’m here in Istanbul.
